Man, woman ID'd in apparent murder-suicide in Perry County

Sunday, June 16, 2013

The Perry County Sheriff's Department has identified a couple found shot in the head Friday in Perry County.

Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf in a news release Saturday said the bodies of Shawn J. Galeski, 36, of Perryville, Mo., and his girlfriend, Jamie L. Cole, 29, of Perryville were discovered about 2:15 p.m. at Galeski's residence on Route E. The deaths appeared to be the result of a murder-suicide, but Schaaf said it's too early to rule out the possibility of a double-suicide.

"It's a tragic set of circumstances no matter how you look at it," he said.

"It took a little while to identify who Cole's relatives were, but we were able to notify them later [Friday] evening," Schaaf said in the release.

According to Schaaf, both Galeski and Cole were killed by a single gunshot to the head. The incident took place in a locked upstairs room at the residence and probably occurred sometime early Friday morning based on the condition of the bodies upon discovery.

"We had dealt with Galeski some in the past," Schaaf said, "but we hadn't had any trouble with him lately. You wouldn't had known he'd been around."

A person found the couple and contacted the sheriff's department, and a weapon was located at the scene. More information will be made known as the investigation continues, Schaaf said.

Another murder sucide. What is going on?

Guns, guns, guns. It's that simple

"Guns,guns,guns. It's that simple"

Yep, blame it on the guns. If they didn't have a gun they would have used a knife, a hatchet, rat poison, sleeping pills, a bomb, a fire, etc. etc.

Financial problems could be part of it, these types of incidents have increased all over the country not just here.

People who repeat what others have wrote are rude!

The odds of a death resulting from a gun are enormously greater than a knife. Think about it, guns are ONLY used to kill, knives have many USEFUL purposes. This is what is wrong with any Tom, Dick, Harry, or Eloise having EASY access to a GUN!

My prayers go out to the remaining families.

The odds of someone who owns a gun legally killing someone are enormously smaller. Much smaller than the odds of getting killed in a car wreck or dying from cancer or a heart attack. Very very small.

Guns are used for hunting and killing.

Knives are used for eating animals that have been killed and killing.

Your bias shows...

On the topic, sorry to hear this news. Tragic.

Ask the common Syrian citizen how helpful arms restrictions are. Our own fearless leader is all for handing out arms to the Syrian commoners for the same reason he wants to take them away from the USA citizen - because an armed citizenry has a better chance of thwarting an oppressive government. The very reason the USA has handed out arms in most every major conflict is the foundation of the 2nd amendment.

Yes, they are dangerous, but they wouldn't do much thwarting if they weren't.

It was a lover's quarrel - just not the right outcome.

Seriously, you are going to argue gun laws over a senseless tragedy in which 2 lives were taken? I don't care if it is guns, knives, baseball bats, golf clubs, or bow and arrow, there are 2 people who lost their lives. Can we please show some decent concern for the family of these people and get off issues that don't help anyone?

May God lay his hands of peace upon the families of the people involved, very sorry for your loss.

"Guns are used for hunting and killing."-- Posted by Dug on Sat, Jun 15, 2013, at 11:50 AM

Really? So do you think there are hunters using guns that are only trying to maime their prey?

You are right tracy. There are families who have lost their loved ones and it is tragedy. But I bet both families wish the murderer who committed suicide had not had the means to do it.

It is truly a shame that this happened. It would also be a shame if someone broke in my home with the intent to harm me and I was not able to defend myself with my GUN!

this is a very sad situation. my heazrtfelt sympathy to the families. May God give you the strength to get through

What in the world does that even mean?

-- Posted by Dug on Sun, Jun 16, 2013, at 11:20 AM

And Obummer wants to sign the United Nations treaty to take away our guns.

-- Posted by Dug on Sun, Jun 16, 2013, at 11:20 AM

It means, if the murderer did not have the means (a gun) to commit the crime, the family may still have their loved one today. And, the murderer may still be alive as well.

I thought it was pretty clear. You never explained your previous remark.

-- Posted by Reasoning on Sun, Jun 16, 2013, at 1:57 PM

Anyone who wants to commit murder and/or suicide is going to find the means to do it. Not having a gun would not have stopped him. The mindset and misery that this man had to be in is sad. What caused it - who knows. But, it wasn't guns, guns, guns. Could have been drugs, drugs, drugs; alcohol, alcohol, alcohol; mixed with just plain overwhelming misery. A "thing" did not cause this tragedy. Circumstance caused it.

Reasoning, I guess by your logic that Clay Waaker didn't murder his wife because he did not use a gun? He strangled and beat her. No weapon. A person can kill another with almost any item but yet you want to take away guns. How about knifes, or even hands. Once again your logic makes NO SENSE and is a knee jerk reaction to the method of harm

This sounds like good population control to me.
