Junior High students take numerous awards

Thirty-three Cape Central Junior High School students competed in the regional National History Day event at Southeast Missouri State University in March, and nine students went on to compete at the State level. Katherine Carns, Claudia Price and Alicia Stull are pictured wearing the medals earned at State Competition at University of Missouri-Columbia for their website about the Black Plague. The trio took 1st Place at Regional Competition and placed 3rd at State.

Other students who competed at State, and their Regional awards, are Justin Tuschhoff: 1st Place, individual website; Carson Retter: 2nd Place, individual website; Madison Dush, Bennett Kidd, Katie Kinder and Levi Strickland: 3rd Place, group website. Prior to the competition, students completed a research project related to the theme "Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, and Events." They competed with an exhibit board, a documentary, or a website. Their teacher is Gifted Facilitator Emily Goode.
