Junior high musical

Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School will hold its annual spring musical beginning tonight. The 7 p.m. performances run through Saturday. This year's production is "Beauty and the Beast."

While the musical is usually held in May, director Mike Dumey and the cast have fast forwarded their efforts seven weeks to avoid scheduling conflicts. Dumey, who called this year's cast a "great group," said the students have put in many hours for practice since January.

This will be the 20th anniversary for the junior high musical. What started in the Shultz seventh grade library with only a handful of microphones has turned into a more elaborate performance. A story on today's neXt page shows a few photos from Tuesday's practice. The costumes are impressive, and combined with the acting, singing and dancing, this should be a fun musical to watch.

Tickets are on sale for $8, $10 and $15. Tickets also may be purchased at the door.

The students always do a phenomenal job with these productions, and we hope you consider attending one of the shows to support their efforts. Congratulations on 20 years to Dumey, the school and all those who help with these programs.
