Ark. police looking for abducted child of former Chaffee man

Evan Darby

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. -- The Blytheville Police Department is investigating a noncustodial abduction of a 5-year-old.

According to Blytheville Criminal Investigations Division Capt. Scott Adams, Harry Darby went to pick up his 5-year-old son Evan from his ex-wife's residence at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Harry Darby was born and raised in Chaffee, Mo., and his mother still resides there.

When Darby arrived to pick up his son, his ex-wife, Corbet Darby, told him to come back in an hour and closed the door, according to Adams. After a few minutes, the officer said, Corbet Darby "exited the apartment with the child in her hands and got into her 1996 white Volvo and locked the doors. Mr. Darby called the police department as he watched Mrs. Darby leave the parking lot before officers could arrive."

Contact was made with Corbet Darby's family in both Tennessee and Missouri and no one has heard from her, Adams said.

"Corbet has a history of mental instability and the Blytheville Police Department is concerned for both Corbet and Evan," Adams said.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact the Blytheville Police Department at 870-763-4411 or a local law enforcement agency.
