United Way

The United Way of Southeast Missouri announced some good news Thursday when it unveiled that it had exceeded its 2012 goal with $955,898 collected so far, beating the target of $950,000.

Several contributions still are to be reported, with the final tally coming after the March 31 donation deadline.

Thirty-three workplace campaigns increased giving in 2012. Donors who increased their giving by $1 per week raised up to an additional $140,000 for the organization.

Nearly 51,000 people were served through United Way-funded programs last year.

The United Way supports local programs and organizations that make our community better, from helping children succeed in school to making sure the poor have food to eat. Congratulations to the United Way, but more importantly, we'd like to thank all who reached a little deeper to help our community this year.

Here's hoping for another successful campaign in 2013.
