Rescheduled gun-control forum set for Thursday
Sunday, March 3, 2013
A rescheduled meeting of the Southeast Missouri Pachyderm Club, which will include a forum on gun-control, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau.
The previously scheduled meeting set for Feb. 21 was canceled because of weather conditions.
Local experts will weigh in on the gun control debate, according to a news release from the club. The panel will feature Lt. Barry Hovis of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, a longtime member of the NRA; Jake Ruebel, a concealed-carry instructor; Jeff Poole, owner of Absolute Arms and Ammo; and an unidentified manager of the sporting-goods department of a national retailer.
The panel will engage in discussion about the original intent of the Second Amendment, the affect of guns in society from a law-enforcement perspective; the training necessary to receive a conceal-carry permit and affects of conceal-carry laws on crime; proposed gun-control measures in Congress; how gun-control measures have affected gun sales; and how background checks work and discretionary measures sellers take when selling firearms.
The club will install new officers and directors.
