Howard C. "Snap" Huffman, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Grand Tower, Ill., to Albert and Grace Chaney Huffman. He and Annie E. Thompson were married Dec. 13, 1947, at Greenville, Miss. Mr. Huffman was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was in the Pacific Campaign and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Howard was a Master Operator of Inland and Intercostal Waterways. Mr. Huffman last piloted the Motor Vessel Amoco Missouri. He retired from Amoco Towing.
Survivors include his wife, Annie E. Huffman of Cape Girardeau; daughters Carolyn (Marvin Jr.) Best of Gordonville and Elaine (Greg) Atwood of Carbondale, Ill.; a son, Steve (Trudi) Huffman of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Mary Lou Huffman of Grand Tower; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Doug Huffman; four brothers; and six sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military rites by the Missouri Honors Team.
