High school roundup: Bernie beats Advance with 65-foot shot

Friday, January 4, 2013

Bernie's Sam Turner hit a 65-foot shot at the buzzer to lift the visiting Mules to a 69-66 victory over Advance on Thursday night.

The Hornets had rallied from a 53-43 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter before Turner's shot.

"We stopped being aggressive in the fourth quarter and they took it to us," Bernie coach Brad Botsch.

Turner's shot from his own end improved Bernie's record to 12-1.

"Sam's 65 footer at the buzzer was pure luck, but we're happy it went in," Botsch said. "You'll take it any time, but on the road facing overtime ... even better."

Lane Below scored a game-high 24 points for Advance (8-4), while Ethan Barr had 22.

David Baker led Bernie with 21 points, Joey Walker had 16 and Turner finished with 11.
