Christmas Tournament: Cape Central routs Meadow Heights in opening round

Thursday, December 27, 2012

Al Young led four scorers in double figures with 19 points as the second-seeded Tigers rolled to a 82-22 win.

Jamal Cox added 14 and Garan Evans and Andre Statam 10 apiece for Central (4-3), which jumped to a 26-6 lead after one period and led 48-10 at the half.

Central hadn't played a game in two weeks so coach Drew Church didn't expect a masterpiece, but he came away pleased with the Tigers' performance.

"We'd been off for a while. We needed to play a game," Church said. "I knew it would be a little sloppy, but I thought we played unselfishly. We need to tighten some things up, but overall I was happy."

Josh Douglas led 15th-seed Meadow Heights (2-8) with 14 points.

"When you play a team as good as (Central) it will point out your deficiencies," said Panthers coach Glenn Eubanks. "You learn what those are and work on them."
