CAIRO, Ill. -- An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a Cairo house.

At about 3 a.m. Tuesday, a fire started in a house on 20th Street. According to Cairo fire chief John Meyer, three people were living in the house and were able to escape the fire unharmed. However, smoke from the fire reached a next-door neighbor who had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
