Jackson man pleads guilty to assault charges

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

A Jackson man will be sentenced next month following his guilty plea Monday, admitting that he pulled a gun on a Cape Girardeau County deputy in June.

John S. Davis, 52, pleaded guilty to one felony count of assaulting a law enforcement officer. Police say they responded to Davis' home when they got a 911 call of a possible suicidal man. Davis, police said, threatened to kill them and at one point pointed a handgun at one of the deputies, who used a stun-gun to subdue him, according to police reports.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed an armed criminal action charge. Judge Benjamin Lewis set sentencing for Jan. 14.
