ND girls deal Saxony first loss

Sunday, December 9, 2012

The Notre Dame girls basketball team used a big third quarter Saturday to hand visiting Saxony Lutheran its first loss of the season 60-47.

Notre Dame, ahead just 24-22 at the break, outscored the Crusaders 22-9 in the third quarter to open up a commanding 46-31 lead.

Both squads are now 4-1.

"We started taking the ball to the basket, driving a lot more," Notre Dame coach Renee Peters said. "Once that happens you get more confidence. We shot the ball much better than we have the last couple of games, so that's good.

"The girls really wanted to win this one and they played really hard."

Miranda Fowler and Karsen Powers led a balanced offensive attack for the Bulldogs with 15 points. Annie Siebert added 14 points.

Powers dished out nine assists and Fowler grabbed seven rebounds.

Grace Mirly paced the Crusaders with nine points.

Saxony lead 13-7 after the first quarter before Notre Dame rallied for a 24-22 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs then pulled away in the third quarter.
