Jackson man sentenced in sexual-abuse case
Tuesday, December 4, 2012
A Jackson man was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he sexually abuse a 9-year-old girl.
Gary K. Dupont, 37, will serve the bulk of that sentence under Missouri's truth-in-sentencing law, which requires defendants convicted of a so-called dangerous felony to serve a minimum 85 percent of the sentence.
Dupont, who had been scheduled for an arraignment, was facing charges of first-degree statutory sodomy. In October, he turned himself in and confessed to molesting a 9-year-old girl. Dupont told police he was remorseful, according to a probable-cause statement. He also said he told the same to the victim's mother.
Dupont, when released, must meet requirements of the sex offender's registry, according to assistant prosecuting attorney Jack Koester.
