High school roundup: Leopold debuts with win in Woodland tournament

Leopold made its boys basketball season's debut a dandy with a lopsided victory over Zalma at the Woodland Tournament.

Senior Kyle Stroder made eight 3-pointers and scored 26 points to help lead the Wildcats, the tournament's top seed, to an 86-19 win.

Senior Joe Elfrink added 16 points and junior Cameron Davis contributed 15.

Brad Key paced No. 8 Zalma (0-1) with nine points.

Second-seeded Scott City (1-0) followed with a 96-40 win over No. 7 Meadow Heights. Senior Jesse Sanders led the Rams with 25 points, while senior Ryan Brock added 21.

Senior Josh Douglas led Meadow Heights with 15 points.

No. 4 Perryville held off No. 5 Woodland 53-45 in the nightcap. Nate Kinnison led the Pirates (1-0) with 19 points, including a perfect 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Garret Reynolds led Woodland (0-1) with 16 points.

No. 3 seed Oak Ridge will face No. 6 Delta in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. tonight followed by Zalma facing off against Woodland in the loser's brackets.

Semifinals will be played Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Top-seeded Scott County Central, the four-time defending Class 1 state champions, posted a 71-41 victory over No. 8 Bell City.

Tyler Masters led the Braves with 20 points, while Larandis Banks had 19.

Second-seeded Oran also cruised to a 106-29 victory against No. 7 Richland.

Kody Moore and Alex Heuring both scored 25 points for the Eagles.

Semifinal action will be held Thursday night.

Perryville senior Natalie Gremaud had a phenomenal night in the Pirates' season-opening win at home.

Gremaud tallied big in the stats sheets with 21 points, 22 rebounds and five assists in the victory.

Desiree Brown scored 14 points and snagged 17 rebounds for Perryville (1-0). Allison Moldenhauer added nine points, eight steals and seven assists in the win.

Anne Dennis led Scott County Central with 29 points. Mikaela Blissett added 18 points for the Bravettes (0-1).
