Cape Central High School's Girardot yearbook staff and Tiger newspaper staff joined forces to win the Sweepstakes Trophy for the fourth year in a row at the Southeast Missouri Scholastic Press Association Workshop held at Southeast Missouri State University. Seventeen schools competed for the honor. Over 25 schools and more than 365 students and advisers attended the conference.

Competition results for Cape Central High School are:

1st Place: Newspaper Front-page Design; Newspaper Double-page Design; Newspaper Student Life Photography (Brooke Burge); Yearbook Academic Photography (Amie Condie)

2nd Place: Newspaper Sports Photography (Brooke Burge); Yearbook Double-page Design

3rd Place: Yearbook Write Off (Rachel Long)

"We are incredibly proud of our total journalism program at Cape Central, and to have our program validated in competition with our greater journalism community simply validates the tradition of excellence we have come to expect from our students and from our journalism faculty," said CHS Principal Dr. Mike Cowan. Advisers are Cynthia Buerck and Pat Kuper.
