Sunday, August 19, 2012
WAPPAPELLO, Mo. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake has lifted some of the fire ban imposed July 25.
Charcoal and small campfires will be permitted in the following developed campgrounds only: Redman Creek West, Redman Creek East, Peoples Creek Upper, Peoples Creek Lower and Greenville Campgrounds. Fires must be contained in charcoal grills or campfire rings supplied at the campsites. Charcoal from grills must be placed in the fire rings at campsites. Visitors are asked to use common sense and minimize the size of campfires and cooking fires.
The corps is urging visitors to ensure that all fires are put out using water. The corps also is asking that campers place cigarette butts in approved containers and fire rings, and keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
The fire ban remains in effect for the remainder of all lands operated by the Wappapello Lake Project Office.
