High winds, storm damage reported in Cape Girardeau, Chaffee

Storms rolling through the area Thursday caused damage in Cape Girardeau and Chaffee.

According to National Weather Service reports, wind damage was reported at a concrete business in south Cape Girardeau just before 4 p.m., and uprooted trees and downed power lines were reported in Chaffee at 4 p.m.

A 53 mph wind gust associated with a storm was also reported at the Cape Girardeau airport at 3:45 p.m.

Wind damage was reported in nearby Wayne and Stoddard counties, too, and heavy rain was reported in Wayne County.

The storms knocked out power to several hundred Ameren Missouri customers in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties, according to the utility's online outage map.

At the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, 0.14 inches or rain had been recorded just before 5 p.m. The National Weather Service rain gauge was down after that.
