Monday, July 9, 2012

The temperature was hot in Cape Girardeau on Sunday, just not as hot as it had been for several days.

National Weather Service meteorological technician Dave Purdy said the temperature reached 96 at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport on Sunday, the first day since Tuesday that it had not topped 100.

Tuesday the temperature reached 92. It had reached 100 for five consecutive days before Tuesday, he said.

Normal highs for early July are near 89, Purdy said. Temperatures were expected to return to normal this week, with highs expected to be in the high 80s and low 90s.

Gauges at the airport recorded 0.34 on an inch of rain Saturday night. Rain and thunderstorms rolled through the area Sunday evening and was expected to continue through this morning.
