Identity of man hit by train in Anna released

ANNA, Ill. -- Authorities in Illinois have confirmed that a Mounds, Ill., man died after being struck by a freight train Sunday in Anna. Jeffrey W. Kelley, 49, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday after being flown to a St. Louis hospital with critical injuries, according to the Illinois State Police. Kelley was lying in the center of the tracks just south of North Main Street in Anna when he was struck by a northbound Canadian National Railroad freight train around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. Train personnel attempted to warn Kelley of its approach, according to a news release. Police said alcohol was a factor in the incident.
