No-burn orders called for Chaffee, Cairo, Charleston

Chaffee, Cairo and Charleston on Thursday added themselves to the growing list of cities and counties in the area prohibiting burning in response to the dry, hot weather. Chaffee issued a no-burn order until further notice, according to a news release. The order doesn't prohibit fireworks, but their use is strongly discouraged. City officials reminded residents that using projectile fireworks on sticks is prohibited. Cairo's order bans any burning and the use of fireworks in the city limits. Charleston also issued an order Thursday banning both open burning and the use of fireworks, also in effect until further notice. Other city and county governments that have issued no-burn orders include Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County and Jackson, which issued burn bans but not fireworks bans.
