Safe House

An organization that helps women who have suffered from domestic violence has chosen its new executive director. Michelle Scherer, of Benton, Mo., was selected to lead Safe House for Women and started her new job earlier this month.

Having worked as an administrator in Missouri's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Scherer has a great deal of experience in dealing with state and federal agencies. This will be a plus for her in the new role.

One significant challenge she'll be faced with is fundraising. Last year the Vintage Now Fashion Show was a huge success. Thanks to the organizers, donors and volunteers, more than $30,000 was raised. Plans are underway for this year's show, and we're confident the community will embrace it with the same enthusiasm as last year's event.

Safe House plays an important role in our community. From its crisis hotline to sheltering clients at an undisclosed location, many in abusive situations find help and support through this organization.

We congratulate Scherer on her new position and look forward to watching her, with the support of the organization's board members and volunteers, move forward.
