2012 8th District GOP Primary Debate

Poplar Bluff for Liberty has invited the Republican candidates for the U.S. Representative of Missouri's 8th Congressional District to a public debate in Poplar Bluff. This debate would pit incumbent Representative Jo Ann Emerson against Bob Parker, her Republican primary opponent.

Mr. Parker has proven to be a serious challenger to Rep. Emerson by attracting 35 percent of the primary vote in 2010. Anti-incumbent sentiment appears to have only increased in the two years since Emerson and Parker last faced each other, as seen in Texas where eight-term incumbent representative Silvestere Reyes was narrowly defeated by former El Paso city councilman Beto O'Rourke at the end of May. Six-term Indiana Senator Richard Lugar was defeated by Tea Party favorite Richard Mourdock by a shocking 20 percentage points.

"Each year more and more Americans feel as though lawmakers are out of touch. A public debate is an excellent forum in which candidates can express their stances on various issues in their own words. The people of the 8th District would enjoy this opportunity to meet the candidates and ensure that politicians are not, in fact, out of touch." says Ryan Heuiser, member of Poplar Bluff for Liberty.

Poplar Bluff for Liberty is a group of liberty-minded individuals from Poplar Bluff and the surrounding area that strive to promote and defend the principles of individual liberty, limited constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy by means of education and political activity.

Given the severity of the problems our nation is facing at this time, the voters our community have many questions they would like to see addressed in a debate forum. We want and need real solutions. We need to know where our candidates stand so that on the August 7th Primary election we can make the best informed decision possible.

A debate is needed between the incumdent and Bob Parker. The congresswoman needs to consider this request as many citizens of the 8th District is requesting that this debate be held prior to the August Republican Primary. Many candidates have debates prior to a party primary. Why is the congresswoman refusing to debate Bob Parker? the people need answers.

I think Bob needs to debate himself, particularly on the issue of drug legalization.

I agree that a debate between Parker and The Incumbent would be beneficial to the voters, but this event doesn't sound like it would even give the appearence of being unbiased.

If there is enough interest a media outlet will host a debate. It won't be in the eastern part of the district though.

Emerson refusing to debate the issues and answer for her voting record is a slap in the face to her constituents.

That in itself is reason enough to vote her out of office regardless of who her challenger is.

Sounds to me like someone on Meth. Still waiting to hear about the lies you keep yelling. Is that a side effect of the Meth? Don't you ever get tired of yelling LIES? Tell me what the LIES are. Emerson even called Bob Parker a liar and still refuses to say what he lied about, when asked about it directly to her face. This is just a political jab to make people think Bob has lied about something. The thing is, we are still wondering what is supposed to be a lie. Even Emerson refused to answer that question when asked. I guess she told you the same thing. Don't say anything and hope the accusation will stick. I believe the problem is, THE TRUTH HURTS!!!!! She just can't handle the truth, and neither can you. I realize it is a problem for you, because when she loses, you will have to find another job.
