Annual cleanup program in Jackson starts July 9

Friday, June 22, 2012

Jackson will conduct its annual Clean Up-Fix Up program July 9 through 13. The free service is available to Jackson residents that qualify for the solid waste pickup program.

During this week, residents should place all qualifying refuse at the curb by 6 a.m. on their regularly scheduled collection day. There is a four-cubic-yard limit for the amount of regular household trash that can be placed at the curb during the program. All residential trash must be bagged, tied or bundled.

Prohibited items include yard waste, motor oil, hazardous material and tires. Appliances, televisions and computer monitors will no longer be picked up during the Clean Up-Fix Up event; however, they can be disposed of daily at the recycling center for a small fee.

Waste should be put at curbside only during the week of the event. Those who put out their items early could be issued a ticket by the police department for violating public nuisance laws.

For more information, call the Public Works Department at 243-2300 or the Sanitation Department at 243-2333.
