He was born May 5, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Alvin Chester and Lulu Vesta Niswonger Waldrup. He and Esther Shirrell were married June 20, 1948, at First Church of God in Cape Girardeau, with the bride's grandfather, J.H. Shirrell, officiating.
Truman was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving three years during World War II, participating in the South Pacific and the occupation of Japan as a radio operator on a B-24 bomber.
He was a journeyman electrician 10 years and worked at Cape Ready Mix, Rose Con Pipe and Rose Concrete for a combination of 33 years.
He was a member of Breakfast Optimist, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Jaycees, Eagle Scout, Unity Quartet and First Church of God, being a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, choir director, treasurer and board member.
Truman's love for sports and the outdoors included bowling, tennis, golf, hunting, gardening (especially tomatoes), fishing with anyone who would go anytime, and running the Boston Marathon at age 62.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years; a son, Truman "Butch" (Vicki) Waldrup II of Dexter, Mo.; a daughter, Cindy (Kenny) LeGrand of Kelso, Mo.; two brothers, Raymond (Margie) Waldrup of Kelso, Cecil (Pat) Waldrup of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Jo Ann George of Houston; four grandchildren, Truman "Trey" Waldrup III, Whitney (Brian) Chu, Brian (Jill) LeGrand, Blake (Kara) LeGrand; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cecil L. Waldrup and the Rev. Ronald E. Knapp officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to First Church of God Building Fund, 500 Emerald St., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, or given to Ford and Sons Funeral Home.
