LEOPOLD, Mo. -- A Leopold farmer suffered second-degree burns late Wednesday afternoon after his barn caught fire.
Tom Schreckenberg, 62, had been backing his tractor into his barn when the tractor apparently ignited some hay, according to Marble Hill fire chief Jim Bollinger,
"He tried to fight it with a garden hose, but there wasn't enough pressure," Bollinger said.
Fire departments from Leopold, Marble Hill and Zalma responded. The barn was a total loss, Bollinger said. Also destroyed were a combine, truck, other farm equipment and some round hay bales.
Schreckenberg was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Hospital with burns to the upper portion of his body.
