Southeast students donate unwanted items, sell them for Community Caring Council

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Most Southeast Missouri State University students are gone for the summer, but some of the belongings they no longer need are being put to good use.

The university's Office of Residence Life and the Community Caring Council of Cape Girardeau collected unwanted items from dorm residents before the students went home.

Items collected through the "Don't Dump, Donate" program ranged from lamps, fans and TVs to clothes and shoes. Those items were then sold Friday at a community garage sale, with proceeds assisting people and families in need.

The university says the donations filled an entire box truck plus a pickup truck. It wasn't immediately clear how much money was raised.
