Graduation season

Final exams, papers and other projects are wrapping up, and many local students are counting down the days until summer vacation. For some students the end of another school year means graduation.

Students: We hope you enjoy these ceremonies and the events surrounding the momentous occasion. Your achievements are something to be celebrated. At the same time, use good judgment when celebrating. Don't let alcohol or other lapses in judgment dampen an otherwise joyous time.

Parents and other guardians: You, too, deserve a round of applause. While the ceremonies are to celebrate the students' achievements, many of you have also played a significant role in the development of your child and should be commended for your efforts.

Graduates now prepare for college or the workforce. While this is uncharted territory -- and can cause feelings of anxiety for some -- we hope these young people embrace the opportunities ahead with enthusiasm and an optimistic view for your future.

Yes, there will be challenges ahead. But with diligence and courage, we're confident that each of you can find your niche in whatever career path you choose.

Congratulations!
