Cape County accepts equipment bid for road project
Friday, May 11, 2012
Cape Girardeau County commissioners awarded a bid Monday for equipment necessary to pave and widen County Road 525.
Metal Culverts Inc. of Jefferson City, Mo., provided the low bid of $19,346 for erosion control equipment to strengthen the banks of the creek that runs alongside the road. Three segments ranging from 90 to 160 feet long will be reinforced with the devices, called "gabion baskets," to prevent water from washing away the soil that supports the pavement.
Three other bids were submitted. Contech Engineered Solutions of West Chester, Ohio, for $20,357, John Deere Landscapes of Cleveland, Ohio, for $20,634, and Silver Eagle of O'Fallon, Mo., for $23,196.
The cost of the road project will come from county Proposition 1 revenue.
Commissioners also approved a request by Phyllis Schwab, public administrator, to add a computer to her office and upgrade its software system at a cost of $1,100. The office has been operating with one computer and the second will be allocated from existing IT equipment. Funding will come from the public administrator's budget.
Presiding Commissioner Clint Tracy was not present in commission proceedings Monday.
