FREE Saturday Social: Painting Workshop

Original Artwork by Dave Carter.

The Southeast Missouri Arts Council invites you to attend a Saturday Social on May 12, from 1 to 3 pm, featuring Kirksville artist Dave Carter, who successfully owns and runs an art supply store in Kirksville, MO.

Carter became interested in the Visual Arts early on in his lifetime, and was successful in producing and promoting the arts. Carter travelled extensively, conducting community arts seminars across the Midwest, until a car accident hampered his ability to travel. After 16 years away from his passion, Dave began painting again in February of 2011, and opened "Dave's Studio" with his wife, Sally.

Dave says his goal in creating artwork is 'to engage the viewer's emotions regarding specific moments in beautiful places'. Aside from painting, and running an art supply store, Dave also coordinates workshops and lessons for the Kirksville community. Dave notes that the greatest compliment he could receive from a viewer would be if they wanted to 'sit in that spot and eat their lunch'.

During this hands-on Saturday Social, Dave will instruct visitors on how to make the transition from preliminary charcoal and pencil sketches, to the painting process. He also has lots of advice for artists who have been away from the easel for quite some time, and would like to get back into painting again.

This Saturday Social is FREE and open to the public. Supplies will be provided for visitors at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. This event is hosted in conjunction with the 26th Annual Congressional High School Art Show, and the Arts Council highly encourages all ages to attend.

Come join other arts patrons and supporters in welcoming artist Dave Carter Saturday, May 12, at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, located at 32 North Main Street in Cape Girardeau, MO. The gallery is also open Tuesday- Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
