Cub Scout Olympics

Tent Building Competition

On Saturday April 14, 2012 more than 40 area Cub Scouts from Cape Girardeau Packs 15, 20 and 21 converged on Lou Muegge Field for a fun filled afternoon of friendly physical competition.

The Cub Scouts participated in track and field events along with a Tent Building Competition between the packs. The track and field events of the day included, 50 meter run, 100 meter run, football toss, standing long jump, shot-put, and an obstacle course.

Each Pack selected one Tiger, one Wolf, one Bear and one Webelo to represent their Pack in the Tent Building Competition. Each team was required to race down to the tent, unpack it, set it up correctly and then race back to the finish line. The team with the fastest time wins. Each team was coached by a Boy Scout or Den Leader from their pack. The coaches were there to instruct the scouts only and not provide hands on help.

Family centered events were a part of the afternoon as well. A Pee Wee Race was held for all siblings of scouts, who are not old enough to be in scouts. A 1 mile Family Fitness Run/Walk concluded the events of the afternoon.

An Awards Ceremony was held at the end of the day to honor the top scouts. Awards were presented to the top three scouts for each rank for each event of the day. Other awards that were given out included an overall scout award, a Pee wee race award, a family fitness run/walk award, tent building competition pack award, and an Overall pack award.

The Cub Scout Olympics was hosted by Pack 15. Planning for the April 2013 Cub Scout Olympics is underway and we hope that other Packs from the surrounding area will be able to participate.
