Missouri insurance agency reaches deal with Humana
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri insurance officials say one of the country's largest health insurers has agreed to refund more than $600,000 to health care providers.
The state Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration said Friday that Humana Insurance Co. and Humana Health Plan LLC agreed to make the payments after improperly collecting refunds from doctors and other providers.
State officials say they found Humana frequently sought reimbursement from health care providers more than a year after claims were paid. State law gives health insurance companies up to one year to correct billing errors. The improper reimbursements affected 247 health care providers.
