High school roundup: Puchbauer's single lifts Oak Ridge baseball team to tourney title

Andrew Puchbauer's single in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the Oak Ridge baseball team to the title at its own tournament Saturday.

The Blue Jays loaded the bases on three walks with two outs to set up Puchbauer's hit for the 6-5 win over Saxony Lutheran.

Dakota Zoellner went 3 for 4 at the plate and earned the win on the mound.

Ethan Mirly suffered the loss for the Crusaders, who walked 10 in the contest.

Woodland held off Leopold 4-2 to grab third place in the tournament.

C.J. McAlister struck out five and walked five to earn the win for the Cardinals.

Landon Johnson went 2 for 3 for Woodland (8-4).

Carbondale tournament

St. Vincent suffered its first loss of the season in the title game.

The Indians (11-1) fell 2-0 to host Carbondale despite holding a 15-10 edge in shots.

St. Vincent reached the title game by defeating Farmington 5-1.

Abby Lappe scored three goals to lead the Indians.

Holly Cissell added one goal and one assist, while Katie Taylor recorded the other goal for the Indians.

Kayla Seabaugh dished out two assists, while Holly Blandford added one.

Goalie Abby Ruessler snagged 10 saves for the Indians.

Harrisburg tournament

Central fell to Freeburg, Ill., 4-0 in the championship game after winning two games earlier in the day.

The Tigers first knocked off host Harrisburg 3-0.

Megan Daly, Maddi Shell and Kristen Begley recorded the goals for the victors.

Central then defeated Centralia, Ill., 3-0 to earn a spot in the title game.

Brooke Evans, Shell and Daly found the back of the net for the Tigers.

Moberly tournament

Saxony Lutheran went 2-1 at the tournament to finish in third place.

The Crusaders opened the action with a 2-1 win over Mexico.

Kristy Winter and Sarah Winningham scored, while Abby Hadler and Nicole Hemmann had assists.

Saxony Lutheran then dispatched Kirskville 2-1 behind two goals from Hadler.

Maci Daniel and Regan Obermann recorded assists in the win.

The Crusaders finished the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Hannibal.


Oak Ridge tournament

Advance claimed the title with a 13-6 victory over Woodland.

Hannah Clark finished with five strikeouts and five walks to earn the win in the circle. She went 2 for 4, including a double, at the plate.

Josie Long went 2 for 3, including a triple, for the Cardinals.

Woodland reached the title game by defeating Leopold 18-14, which was the Wildcats' first loss of the campaign.

Kendra Pinkley smashed a home run, while Long went 5 for 6 with a triple.

Leopold defeated Meadow Heights 19-11 in earlier tournament action.

Denai Arnzen, Emily Elfrink and Ashley Keim all tripled in the win.

Arnzen earned the win in the circle.
