VFW Post 3838 having antique and collectible show

VFW Post 3838, 1049 N. Kingshighway, is hosting an antique and collectible show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Early birds can arrive between 8 to 9 a.m. Tickets are $3 per person. The public is invited.

Hanover Lutheran school, church open for tours, dinner

Hanover Lutheran school and church will be open for tours and a dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. today. The church is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The school, which was found to need roofing and other repairs, is one of the few remaining, unconverted one-room school in the state. PBHS class of '62 to hold 50th reunion planning session

Officers and key members of the Poplar Bluff High School graduating class of 1962 will meet 6 p.m. Monday at The Bread Company in Mansion Mall in Poplar Bluff to plan the 50th reunion of the class, to be held the first weekend in October. Jerry Ford signing latest book at River Campus this week

Jerry Ford's new book, "Dreamers: From Small Town to Big Time," published by Southeast Missouri University Press will have a book signing reception from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the River Campus. Ford chronicles local and regional musicians and entertainers careers from the 1920s to present.

Kelly School kindergarten meeting and screening set

A meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for parents and their child at the elementary gym. A bus ride, school tour, kindergarten expectations and school supply list will all be included in the meeting. Parents attending the meeting will have first opportunity to schedule a screening appointment for March 20 or 21 to have their child screened. Screenings will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 20 and 21 in the elementary library. Parents unable to attend the meeting can call the school at 545-3541 after March 8 to schedule an appointment. Parents need to bring the child's shot record, birth certificate, Social Security card and proof of residency. To be eligible, the child must be 5 years old before Aug. 1. Children will need to be present at the screening and the meeting.

St. Joseph Parish putting on chicken and dumpling dinner

St. Joseph Parish is hosting an all-you-can-eat chicken and dumpling and sausage dinner buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 11. Tickets for adults are $7, for children $3 and children 6 and younger is free. Take Interstate 55 to the Biehle exit (exit 123), then go south on Route B for one mile, then turn left on Route F and go five miles.

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jackson hosting fish fry

The Immanuel Lutheran Church, 496 State Highway F, Jackson, is hosting a fish fry at 4 p.m. March 11. Tickets for adults is $8, children 6 to 12 $4 and children 6 and younger is free. Carry-outs are available for $8. A portion of the proceeds will be given to the Lutheran Family and Childrens Service. Baby diapers and wipes will also be collected.

Delta Elementary school kindergarten screening set

Kindergarten screening will be held at Delta Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 14 and 8:30 to 11 a.m. March 15. Parents need to bring a birth certificate, Social Security card and shot records at the time of enrollment. Students will be administered the DIAL screener and results will be shared at screening. Children must be 5 years old before Aug. 1 to attend in the fall. Parents may call 794-2440 for an appointment.

Nell Holcomb kindergarten screening and enrollment set

Nell Holcomb School District, 6547 State Highway 177, will be having a kindergarten screening and enrollment March 29. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling 334-3644. Parents must present their child's immunization record, official birth certificate, Social Security Card and proof of residency at the time of enrollment. Children must be 5 years old before Aug. 1 to attend kindergarten in the fall. All immunizations must be up to date before children are permitted to attend classes. If children receive immunizations after the enrollment date, their updated record must be presented on the first day of school.

Ag scholarship available for Scott County graduate

The Scott County Women in Agriculture organization is offering a $750 scholarship to a 2012 high school graduate. To be eligible for the award, the applicant or applicant's family must be involved in farming or agribusiness in Scott County. The applicant is not required to major in agriculture. The deadline for the completed application is April 1. Application forms are available from counselors at all Scott County high schools or at the Scott County Soil and Water Service office at 6458 State Highway 77, Benton, Mo. Kenny Rogers center holding children's photo contest

The Kenny Rogers' Children's Center is hosting a Telethon Royalty Idol Children's Photo Contest. Entry is $10 per child. Please send a 5-by-7 or smaller, unframed photo by March 12. Judging will be performed by three photographers. The photos must be less than 1 year old. There will be more than a dozen categories for girls and boys. There are special categories for twins, triplets and quadruplets. The categories are as follows:

* Newborn Royalty Idol: Birth to 6 months

* Baby Royalty Idol: 6 to 12 months

* Tiny Royalty Idol: 13 to 24 months

* Toddler Royalty Idol: 2 to 4 years

* Preschool Royalty Idol: 4 and 5 years

* Elementary Idol Prince and Princess: Grades 1 and 2

* Elementary Idol King and Queen: Grades 3 and 4
