'Old Town is your town'

Old Town Cape held its annual dinner Feb. 23 at Dockside-The Upper Deck in the downtown area. We certainly felt the support of the community as our partners, volunteers, investors and sponsors helped us to celebrate the past year. This annual event reflected on the positive efforts of our organization and we appreciate everyone who attended reinforcing for us that downtown is a special part of our Cape Girardeau community.

We were honored to recognize our award winners: Jim Riley, Visionary Award; State Beauty Supply, Business Excellence; Claire Bruce, Volunteer of the Year; and Shivelbines Music and Broadway Prescription for Excellence in Preservation for their sign rehabilitations. We have some amazing businesses in the district, engaged volunteers and people of vision who embrace the Old Town Cape district as we work toward improvement and development.

We are looking forward to the coming year and all of the many exciting events that will occur in 2012 for this area. We are also fortunate to work with new board members, including: Hunter Clark from Broussard's; Gerald Jones representing Neighborhood Connections; Stan Penn, US Bank; and Kelly Green, liaison with the city of Cape Girardeau.

Old Town is your town. As this wonderful area of our city continues to grow and develop, our hope is that you enjoy, embrace and be engaged in all that this area has to offer.

LISA BERTRAND, president,

Old Town Cape, Cape Girardeau
