MALDEN, Mo. -- A man accused of the mid-December home invasion and kidnapping of a Malden resident waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday, and has been bound over to Division I court, where he will appear March 14.
Richard O. Jenkins, 38, of Campbell, Mo., is charged with first-degree robbery, three counts of armed criminal action, two counts of first-degree burglary, and kidnapping in connection with a Dec. 19 home invasion of Terry Kitrel, 70.
Jenkins allegedly entered Kitrel's home and demanded money. Jenkins and Kitrel went to a bank where Kitrel withdrew money and gave it to Jenkins. They returned to Kitrel's home and Jenkins reportedly fled in a white GMC truck. After a two-day search, police saw Jenkins back at Kitrel's home and after a search found him hiding in a hot tub.
Jenkins was released on bond but reportedly did not show up for his first court appearance Dec. 27.
He also has been charged with attempting to steal a construction trailer in Campbell in October.
Kitrel died of unrelated and unspecified causes Jan. 17.
