Mo. Senate backs college transfer credit library

Friday, February 17, 2012

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Senate has approved legislation to make it easier for college students to transfer among public institutions.

The proposal requires public college and universities to create a statewide library of 25 lower-level courses for which students could receive credit if they transferred to another Missouri school.

Currently, students can lose credit for a course they've already completed at one school if the class doesn't meet the requirements of the school to which they transfer. Course fees to make up the credits can be very costly.

Sponsoring Sen. David Pearce, a Republican from Warrensburg, says the class library would make it easier and cheaper for students to transfer and graduate.

The legislation now goes to the House.
