JEFFERSON CITY -- Senator Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, recently sponsored the appointment of Janice Unger of Jackson to the Board of Nursing Home Administrators. The nomination was approved by the full Senate Jan. 25.

"Janice is an active member of the nursing community and the former director of the Lutheran Home," said Sen. Crowell. "She is a great representative for Southeast Missouri."

The Board of Nursing Home Administrators licenses prospective and current long-term care administrators. The board also develops and enforces standards for long-term care administrators, issues, renews and disciplines licenses, investigates complaints and maintains a register of all licensed long-term care administrators in the state, among other duties.

Unger is the former director of the Lutheran Home for Aged in Cape Girardeau before retiring in 2005. She has been involved in numerous professional organizations as well as community groups. She is a member of the American Health Association, American Nurses Association, Missouri League of Nursing Home Administrators and the Missouri Nurses Association. Unger has also served on the Southeast Missouri Hospital School of Nursing Advisory Board and the Southeast Missouri State University Center of Aging and Gerontology Advisory Board. She has served on the Board of Nursing Home Administrators since 1992.

Gubernatorial appointments are appointed by the governor and must then be confirmed by the Senate.
