Storytelling festival

It's been said that laughter is the best medicine. In that case, we're in store for a good dose of it Friday when two nationally acclaimed humorous storytellers visit Cape Girardeau.

Storytellers Bil Lepp and Kevin Kling will headline Friday's humorous storytelling event, the first of its kind for Cape Girardeau.

Telling funny stories, which are more narrative in nature rather than quick-laugh comedy routines, is something Lepp and Kling have done for years. For Lepp the genesis of this interest started by listening to his grandfather, father and brother tell stories at the dinner table. Kling's start began some 30 years ago, a craft he started after telling a story at someone's house.

Dr. Joel Rhodes, a board member of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the event is geared for a wide range of ages, ranging from middle school students to adults.

Shuttles to the theater will be available from 1:15 to 4:45 p.m. and from 6:15 to 9:30 p.m., with pickup locations at the Centenary United Methodist Church lot, located at 300 N. Ellis St., and at the university parking lot at the intersection of Broadway and Pacific Street.
