Wissman enters Jackson School Board race
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
Three candidates are now in the running for seats on Jackson's school board.
Pat Wissman filed Friday. Other candidates are Paul Stoner and 12-year-incumbent Brent Wills. Wills and Cathy Goodman have terms expiring in April. Goodman has not filed for re-election.
Wissman is a retired over-the-road truck owner and operator. He is raising two grandchildren who attend schools in the Jackson district. Wissman was a candidate for Jackson School Board in 2009 and ran as a Democrat in the 2010 race for presiding commissioner of Cape Girardeau County.
Wissman said he wants to serve on the school board as a representative to nontraditional families, like his. He said there are many in the Jackson school district.
Stoner is an operations manager for FedEx in Cape Girardeau and has two daughters who attend South Elementary.
In area school districts, two seats are available on each board for three-year terms, and the two candidates with the most votes in the April 3 election will win the seats. There is no limit on the number of terms an individual can serve consecutively on a school board in Missouri.
The filing period for school board and municipal elections closes at the end of the day today. Those with questions about filing for municipal office can contact their local city clerk's office or school board office for information.
