Winifred Katherine Dokes, 66, of Milledgeville, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Downtown VA Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
She was born Dec. 6, 1945, in St. Louis, to Clyde A. and Jewel Mae McLain Godwin. She and William L. Dokes were married Jan. 3, 1983.
Winifred graduated from Jackson High School. She was a waitress at Howard Johnson and Bob Evans in Cape Girardeau, and at Shoney's and IHOP in Macon, Ga., retiring in 2008.
She served in the U.S. Navy and in the Missouri and Georgia Army National Guards.
Survivors include her husband of Milledgeville; a daughter, Kimberly Rhodes of Whitewater; four brothers, Joe Godwin of Decatur, Mich., Bill Godwin of Affton, Mo., Sam Godwin of Jackson, James Godwin of Montgomery, Texas; five sisters, Judy Johnson of Affton, Jane Leyva of McAllen, Texas, Pam Bond of Milton, Fla., Becky Kinder of Marble Hill, Mo., Jean Bloodworth of Dora, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Mandy Rowland of Phoenix; a stepson, David Dokes of Plano, Texas; two grandchildren, Logan and Alicen Rhodes; and two stepgrandchildren, Victoria Dokes and Peyton Rowland.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Claunch officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery, with full military honors.
