A homeless man was arrested after he allegedly punched a security guard at Southeast Hospital on Dec. 29. Cory Gabelman, 24, was arrested on a Cape Girardeau warrant just before 10 p.m. Monday, Cape Girardeau police spokesman Darin Hickey said. Gabelman was intoxicated and being treated for an unrelated injury when he became upset and struck the guard in the side of the head, Hickey said. The security guard was uninjured, Hickey said. Gabelman is charged with third-degree assault and pleaded not guilty to the charge Tuesday. He remains in the Cape Girardeau County Jail with a $2,500 cash only bond. He will be in court Monday.
