IAAP Girardot Chapter of Cape Girardeau meeting

The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), Girardot Chapter of Cape Girardeau met on November 15, 2011. The program "Computer Internet Safety" was presented by Patrolman Darin Hickey of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. He emphasized the importance of having a firewall and virus protection on your computer. Change your passwords periodically and do not use the same password for all your accounts to help protect yourself from identity theft. He also discussed other ways in which one's identity can be stolen. It is so important to be vigilant. He quoted the age old saying, "If it is too good to be true, it probably is."

The Giradot Chapter of IAAP has many activities throughout the year to promote professionalism, networking, and career development. The Chapter recognizes an Executive of the Year annually and promotes the CAP. Continuing education programs are offered by the Chapter and a scholarship is awarded each year to a student interested in office administration. The Chapter also participates in several community service projects: Safe House, Kathy's Closet, Box Tops for Education (supports local schools) and the American Heart Association Heart Walk.

For over 65 years, the International Association of Administrative Professionals has been helping office professionals reach their career goals through education, community building and leadership development. Their certification programs are recognized as the industry standard of proficiency. Any individual actively employed as a secretary, administrative assistant, office manager or other support position is eligible for membership in IAAP.
