Washington's faith

George Washington was arguably the best president of the United States. A military commander and chief executive of the country, Washington's legacy is a shining example of leadership and an unwavering commitment to country.

Faced with tremendous challenges on the battlefield and as president, Washington's character was confronted in big ways. In his book "George Washington's Sacred Fire," Dr. Peter Lillback examines Washington's character and faith in God.

On Thursday Dr. Lillback will give a lecture at 7 p.m. in Rose Theatre, on the Southeast Missouri State University campus, titled "What was the Faith of George Washington and Does it Matter?" The free event is sponsored by Stan and Debbie Crader, Don and Saundra Crader, the Department of History, the College of Liberal Arts and the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

Dr. Lillback, who is president and professor of historical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, will also be signing copies of his book from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Barnes & Noble in Cape Girardeau.

Special thanks to the Craders and the university for hosting what looks to be a fascinating lecture. We encourage students and the general public to attend this event.
