DINGELDEIN AWARDS SHOW TO COMMEMORATE 50th ANNIVERSARY

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO-- This Friday, October 7, the Southeast Missouri Arts Council will be honoring recipients of the Otto F. Dingeldein award from the last 36 years as a special exhibit to commemorate the Council's 50th anniversary. The show will be exhibited the entire month of October and will display art and artifacts from over 30 of the award winners, including the most recent recipient--local artist, Linda Buis.

The award was begun in 1975 by the Arts Council Board of Directors, and was first presented to Otto F. Dingeldein, founder of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, for his outstanding contribution to the arts in this area. Established to honor living individuals, the award can be given to artists, non-artists, or to organizations whose involvement in the arts has made a considerable impact on the cultural enrichment of this community.

Persons eligible to receive the award are selected based on an evaluation of their support of, or participation in, various areas of the arts--including the visual, dramatic, literary, musical, and performance arts. Also taken into consideration is their impact on community enrichment, awards and recognition they have received, and the length of time they have been involved in the arts.

Dr. Ann Gifford, Chair of the Board at the Arts Council, says of the event, "It is an incredible opportunity for our gallery to be able to display such a variety of items from those who have had a great impact on the arts in our community. Don't miss it."

Commemorative booklets for sale at the gallery will include a history of the Council, and biographies of the award recipients. Light hors d'oeuvres from Tractors in Jackson, MO will be served at the event, and Major Brands will provide wine, available for patrons with a small donation. Southeast Missouri Arts Council is located at 32 N. Main Street in Cape Girardeau, MO and is open Tuesday- Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
