Vacant barn burns in Cape Girardeau
Thursday, September 29, 2011
A vacant Cape Girardeau barn burned to the ground Wednesday morning. Firefighters responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. to the structure, which is near Westminster Presbyterian Church off Perryville Road. When firefighters arrived, the barn was fully involved, Cape Girardeau fire chief Rick Ennis said. "By the time we got the hoses out, the building was caving in," Ennis said. The fire was contained by 4:30 a.m., Ennis said. The fire's cause is unknown, but Ennis said there is little chance it was natural. Ennis said he was unsure who owned the barn and that the financial damage wasn't much because it was vacant.
