Pumpkin Pie Contest Featured During 3rd Annual Rural Heritage Day

Ste. Genevieve, MO- The 3rd Annual Rural Heritage Day on October 22nd will feature a pumpkin pie contest in addition to the annual festivities. The Pumpkin Pie Contest will be held at Lion's Park in Historic Downtown Sainte Genevieve, Mo at 11:00 AM. There are two categories of pumpkin pie for the contest: Fresh Pumpkin and Cook's Choice. The cost to enter the contest is the donation of a pie. Cooks may enter a pie in both categories. Pies need to be delivered to Lion's Park between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on October 22nd and include the name of the baker, where they are from and which category they wish to participate in.

The Fresh Pumpkin category is the best made-from-scratch plain pumpkin pie, starting with a fresh, whole pumpkin. The Cook's Choice category is the best pumpkin pie of any style. The Cook's Choice will be a delectable addition and will allow bakers to show their flair, creativity and talent with pumpkin pie. Judges will be drawn from the audience and the prize is bragging rights!

Rural Heritage Day is an event that celebrates rural America circa 1860 to 1940. This event is free and open to the public. It will include demonstrations of "how things used to be done": Plowing and tilling, quilts and lace, old-fashioned treats and games. Horse and tractor drawn shuttles will provide transportation to each of the events throughout the historic district. This year will be the 3rd annual celebration for this event that is growing each year.

Ste. Genevieve is located one hour south of St. Louis off I-55 and exit 150 on Highway 32. In 2008, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Ste. Genevieve one of its Dozen Distinctive Destinations. In addition to a number of festivals, the historic downtown features specialty and antique shops, art galleries, wineries, unique dinning and charming bed & breakfasts.
