CHANDLERVILLE, ILL -- James Riley (Sutton) Patterson, 68, of Chandlerville, formerly of Pekin, Ill., passed away at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 in rural Virginia, Ill.
He was born Aug. 23, 1943, in Mapleton, Ill., to Horace and Doris Macents Sutton. He married Nancy Selby on Feb. 12, 1966, in Pekin, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Shelly (Rick) McAninch of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Jami Ruebel, Ariese Patterson and Kenneth Cornwell; three great-grandchildren, Kilah Ruebel, Ryleah Ruebel and Zaiden Hardamon; two brothers, William (Pat) Sutton and Charles Patterson, both of Pekin; two sisters, Jackie Davis of Pekin and Frances "Doc" Chapman of Hettick, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his adoptive parents, Gilbert and Viola Patterson; three brothers; and three sisters.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy in the early 1960s.
Jim was a member of Laborers' International Union of North America Local 231.
He last worked at Verna's Restaurant in Chandlerville. Previously he had worked at Riverview Hatchery in Pekin and had also been a maintenance man for Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes in Pekin from 1985 to 1994. He was a former member of the Pekin Beaver Patrol C.B. Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and carpentry. He also enjoyed professional wrestling and riding bareback broncos in rodeos in his younger days. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes and Crematory in Pekin.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judy Doyle officiating. Cremation will be accorded following services.
