Car show

Sunday the River Tales Classic Car Show, now in its 34th year, returns to downtown Cape Girardeau.

Organizers expect more than 200 classic cars to be entered in the competition, and those who wish to enter a car may still do so for $15. Gates open to show participants at 8 a.m. Sunday for registration. Judging will begin at noon, and trophies to be awarded at 3 p.m.

The show -- billed as a family event -- is free to the public. And with several downtown restaurants and shops open during the event, families can enjoy many of the amenities downtown Cape Girardeau has to offer in addition to a car show experience.

Many classic car enthusiasts take great pride in their vehicles, and this annual show is a fun opportunity to show off the prize possessions. Hats off to the organizers for keeping the event in downtown Cape Girardeau and coordinating with local businesses.
