Parks and rec

Living in Cape Girardeau and other Southeast Missouri communities has its advantages. While maintaining a small-town atmosphere, there are still diverse shopping options, world-class entertainment productions and excellent schools. But there's another quality feature: excellent parks and recreational opportunities.

Recently the Southeast Missourian published the fall 2011 Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Guide. The 40-page insert is filled with information on upcoming activities for all ages. Whether you're looking for athletic or health and fitness activities, cultural or educational opportunities or want to learn about upcoming trips through the department, you'll find a wealth of information, along with some fun photos from the recently held State Outdoor Championships held in Cape Girardeau, in the guide.

Along with the many activities, Cape Girardeau has several impressive facilities and beautiful parks. Head out to Cape LaCroix trail; swim some laps at the newly renovated Central Municipal Pool; or spend a day golfing at the Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Fort D, the Red House Interpretive Center and the Cape River Heritage Museum are also great places to visit.

Make sure to check out the Parks & Recreation Guide and learn more about what Cape Girardeau has to offer.
