High school roundup: Scott City sweeps Dexter in volleyball

The Scott City volleyball team picked up where it left off at the SEMO Spike tournament.

The Rams defeated host Dexter 25-20, 25-18 on Tuesday.

Scott City trailed 17-16 in the first game before running off five consecutive points, then later closed the game on a 4-1 run.

The Rams scored the final six points in the second game to capture the match.

The Pirates improved to 11-1 behind Marissa Erwin's seven blocks.

Morgan Mueller led the defensive effort with 20 digs.

Lauren Buxton contributed six kills for the Pirates.

The host Bulldogs dropped their second match in as many nights.

Kate Edwards recorded 14 kills, and Brooke Bohnert added seven for Notre Dame.

Miranda Fowler had four kill blocks.

Shelby Dix put up 17 assists in the loss.

Jasmine Johnson led the Cubs with nine kills, two digs, five blocks and three assists.

Dylan Blaylock and Keagan Cavanah added two goals apiece, while Alex Bolen added a goal and an assist.

Zack Taylor scored Jackson's other goal.

Blake Kingree and Austin Gammon both recorded an assist in the win.

Austin Baker finished with four saves to record the shutout for Jackson (6-0).

Sikeston 3, Central 2

The host Tigers tried to rally with two goals in the second half, but the Bulldogs managed to hold on after leading 2-0 at halftime.

Duncan McKinley took a pass from Austin Bagley and found the back of the net for Central's first goal.

Vance Toole scored the Tigers' second goal.

Central, which travels to Poplar Bluff on Thursday, dropped to 1-4.

Notre Dame 8, Saxony Lutheran 1

Matt Ponder led the Bulldogs to victory with four goals.

Jonathan Lynch netted one goal and had one assist.

Logan Buchheit, Philip Schuchardt and Duncan Ross each scored one goal in the win.

James Holloway saved two shots for the Bulldogs (4-3).

The Bulldogs (15-0) erased any doubt early by striking for 10 runs in the first inning.

Summer Burger doubled twice, while Brianne Sanders and Brandi Glastetter both went 3 for 3 in the win.

Jade Rampley, Samantha Ratledge, Marissa Menz and Morgan LeDure all drove in one run for Kelly, which hosts Central today.

Jordan Gramling won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly in state-cut times. He touched the wall in 1 minute, 48.73 seconds to break the pool record in the 200 freestyle at Southeast Missouri State.

Gramling also broke the 50 freestyle pool record during the 200 freestyle relay.

Jackson's Kristian Troxel also swam a state-qualifying time in the 100 butterfly.

Saxony Lutheran's Connor McGinnis won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.
